Scales

Explain...

  1. Notes have different pitches or tones
    1. Some notes are low (sing or play example)
    2. Some notes are high (sing or play an example)
    3. And there are lots of different notes in between
  2. Notes are given letter names - A B C D E F and G
    1. These letters get used over and over 
    2. For example, you can have a low “C”, a middle “C” and a high “C”
    3. If you have a xylophone or something similar: show how notes with the same letter name can sound different
  3. Notes can be organized into what is called a scale
    1. A major scale is a set of 8 notes
    2. They always start and ends on the same letter
    3. If you have a xylophone or something similar: play a C scale and show how it starts and ends on C
  4. OPTIONAL: If you have easy sheet music, you can have them try and play some with your guidance.
